The Falcons will find out within the next couple of days how much time running back Tevin Coleman may have to miss because of a hamstring injury. The injury forced Coleman to the sidelines during the second half of Sunday’s game against the Chargers.

“He strained his hamstring so for him, how long, I think I will have a better idea in the next 48 hours to see how significant a strain that he has,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. “He’s dealt with these strains before and he is a fast healer so we’ll see how long he will be out.”

A hamstring injury slowed Coleman during training camp in 2015, his rookie season.

Coleman (175 snaps) and Devonta Freeman (218) have shared time at running back. Coleman leads the Falcons in rushing touchdowns (five) and is second to Freeman with 234 yards on 59 rushing attempts. Coleman leads the duo in receiving with 19 catches for 330 yards and a score.

There is no other running back on the active roster. Quinn said if the Falcons have to add a running back they likely would promote Terron Ward from the practice squad.

Ward played 114 offensive snaps in 2015 and rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown on 29 attempts and had nine catches for 73 yards.

“Fortunately for us, Ward is here and he’s somebody that has got game experience in the system and somebody that we can totally rely on,” Quinn said.
