Comments from Georgia Tech players following the Yellow Jackets’ 37-10 win over Jacksonville State Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Quarterback TaQuon Marshall

“I felt like we started off slower than we’d like to. I felt like we should have come out a little bit faster and maybe the tempo of the game would have changed on our behalf. But, we came out slow, but we picked it up, and then we got things rolling.”

“They were flying to the ball defensively. I think they kind of had our number in the first half on offense. They were just being really disruptive and all the guys on their defense, they were really flying to the ball.”

“It’s always good when we can run the ball and then come and throw some play-action. I’m very confident in my arm, especially when we have guys like Brad Stewart, Ricky Jeune, J.J. Green. You’ve got Clint (Lynch), Qua (Searcy). Even the B-backs can catch. I have confidence in them that they’re going to make a play when I put the ball in the air, and that’s what happened today.”

Nickel back Lawrence Austin

On his interception:

“I saw a sprintout. So when you see a sprintout, we’re just running, No. 1. The d line got great pressure, so it made it easy for me. He just threw it right to me.”

“Turnovers are always big, so when we get the ball in the offense’s hands, that’s always great for the offense. They eat up clock and score. Turnovers are always big. That’s one thing we couldn’t get accomplished in the first game that we got better in the second game.”

On changes from first half to second half:

“We kind of did similar things from the first half, but, effort, we talked about finishing. We know how we felt last week in the second half. Nobody wanted to feel the same way, so those guys (on the defensive line) started to take over and get their dog inside of them, that fire. So, super proud of the d line today.”

Guard Parker Braun

On playing on four days’ rest

“I definitely felt the effects of it. It’s always hard to play a Monday and then turn around and play Saturday, especially when you have a game like we did last week – it really wasn’t last week, it’s this week – where you play 97 snaps and you have guys like myself and our center, Kenny Cooper, who took all 97. It’s hard, but we played through it.”

On playing Jacksonville State:

“It’s easy to underestimate a team like that, given their position, but they definitely came out and showed us what they could do. So it was good. I’m excited for them. I think they’re going to have a good season ahead of them, so I wish them luck.”

Wide receiver Ricky Jeune

“Jacksonville State, they were in press coverage the whole time. We knew their cornerbacks were pretty aggressive, so we had to match their aggression, and on the first one, I beat the guy deep. On the second one, I just dropped the guy, dropped him off, and just made a play. TaQuon (Marshall) threw a great pass and I just finished it.”

Defensive end Anree Saint-Amour

“What was working on the defensive line, I felt like it was more of a team defense type of thing. On one of the sacks, it was great pressure up the middle and it just kind of popped out to me, and on another one, (Brentavious Glanton) did a great job wrapping around and playing the (stunt) game. It fell into my hands. Again, it was a great job just by the whole defense as a whole just doing their jobs and just executing off of that.”
