J.J. Green explains why he loves noon kickoffs

Georgia Tech was assigned another noon-hour game Monday, the September 30 game against North Carolina at Bobby Dodd Stadium. It undoubtedly prompted some grumbling among some Yellow Jackets fans. None from A-back J.J. Green, though.

Green said he loves noon games. His explanation for his preference for early games:

“You don’t want to sit around all day, but also the other team has got to go against that triple option and all those cut (blocks) early in the morning,” Green said. “Guys don’t want to do that; they’re just waking up. They don’t want to do that – it’s a 12 o’clock game. They’ve got to go against cuts early in the morning.”

Tech played eight such games last season (not including its 11 a.m. bowl game) and now has had three this season – Jacksonville State, Pittsburgh this Saturday at 12:20 p.m. and the North Carolina game. Tech fans have often wanted the games to start later, in part to have more time to tailgate.

Coach Paul Johnson has made his preference for early starts known, not wanting to sit in the hotel waiting for game time.
