Georgia State men’s basketball player D’Marcus Simonds remains day to day with a bruised knee.

The freshman has missed the past two games, a loss to UMass and a loss to Georgia Southern. An MRI was performed the morning of the 74-65 loss to the Minutemen last week. The results of the MRI weren’t announced, but Simonds did travel with the team to Statesboro on Saturday. He didn’t dress out for the game.

The 88-65 loss to the Eagles dropped the Panthers to 7-6, 0-1 Sun Belt ahead of Saturday’s game against South Alabama at the GSU Sports Arena.

Simonds, a 6-foot-3 guard, was arguably the highest-rated recruit from Georgia to sign with Georgia State since coach Ron Hunter took over the program. He is the team’s second-leading scorer this season at 9.2 points per game and was described by Hunter after the loss to UMass as the team’s best ball-handler and playmaker. He is averaging 20.6 minutes per game and is third on the team in assists (21).

Before Simonds’ injury the Panthers were averaging 74.2 points per game.
