Georgia running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel prepare to play Appalachian State on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, in Athens.

The Bulldogs take on the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. Some observations before Georgia kicks off its final game in regular season SEC play:

1. The Dawg Walk was especially loud, with seniors Lorenzo Carter, Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Davin Bellamy about to play in front of the home crowd one last time. Chubb ranks second in school history in rushing yards, while Michel is fifth. The red is heavily drowning out the blue around the stadium about an hour before kickoff.

2. Georgia leads the all-time series with Kentucky 56-12-2, with a 27-4-2 showing in Athens. The Wildcats haven’t beaten the Bulldogs since 2009, though last year’s contest required some late-game heroics by Jacob Eason for Georgia to squeeze out a 27-24 win.

3. Coach Kirby Smart said facing Kentucky is in some ways looking at a mirror. The Wildcats’ strength lies in the trenches, with running back Benny Snell a quality answer to Chubb and Michel. Kentucky is 7-3 (4-3) and will finish second or third in the SEC East.

4. The Bulldogs honored all seniors – players, band, cheerleaders, etc. – before kickoff with a PA announcement for each. This senior class is going for its 38th win and third 10-win campaign.

5. The Falcons, Chargers and Raiders had NFL scouts in attendance.
