For Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, there’s no doubt that free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick should be on an NFL roster.

At Tuesday’s press conference, Newton was asked what his thoughts were about Kaepernick still not being signed to an NFL roster.

Before commenting on Kaepernick, Newton told media that before all else, the Panthers were focused on their upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon.

"Do I think Kaepernick is better than some of these starting quarterbacks in the league? Absolutely," Newton said. "Should he be on a roster in my opinion? Absolutely. There's no question about it. Is he good enough to be on a roster? Is he good enough to be a starting quarterback? Absolutely."

After a season of leading National Anthem protests to bring attention to police brutality, Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the 49ers in March and has not signed with a team.

The Panthers and 49ers kick off the regular season from Santa Clara’s Levi Stadium on Sunday at 4:25 p.m.
