Paul Millsap recently underwent a non-surgical preventative procedure to reduce swelling in his right knee and the Hawks forward will miss the first three weeks of training camp. The team made the announcement Thursday.

The three-time All-Star power forward will miss the first two exhibition games as part of the process of rehabilitation. He is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Millsap experienced swelling in his right knee recently as the team gathered for voluntary workouts and five-on-five scrimmages.

“After reviewing the options with Paul to treat his knee and provide him the best long-term care, we agreed, largely due to the time of year, that this was the best method and time to ensure his complete readiness for the start of the regular season,” President of Basketball Operations/Head Coach Mike Budenholzer said in a statement.

The team announced that to maximize the procedure, Millsap will progress through phases of rest and recovery before returning to full basketball activities over the next three weeks.

The Hawks open training camp on Monday in advance of the 2016-17 NBA season.

Millsap appeared in 81 regular-season games last season and averaged 17.1 points and 9.0 rebounds. In three seasons with the Hawks, Millsap has missed a total of 18 games. He has started 227 of his 228 games played with the Hawks.
