The Hawks took another step toward the completion of their new practice facility. The latest, a bit ceremonial.

Often done in construction, those involved in a project will sign a beam that will be used in the building.

The Hawks held a news conference at Philips Arena on Thursday where officials from the Hawks, Emory Healthcare and Brookhaven signed two white beams. Included for the Hawks were CEO Steve Koonin, president of basketball operations and head coach Mike Budenholzer and players Kent Bazemore, Dwight Howard, Paul Millsap and Dennis Schroder.

The 90,000-square foot Emory Sports Medicine Complex is scheduled to open in October, before next season, in Brookhaven.
