Hawks drop third straight home game

Hawks win on the road. Hawks lose at home.

The Hawks dropped their third straight game at Philips Arena with a 92-84 loss to the Timberwolves Wednesday night.

Playing without starting center Dwight Howard for the second straight game, the Hawks lost control of a close game late in the fourth quarter. The Timberwolves broke an 80-80 tie with an 8-2 run en route to the victory. They took the six-point advantage with 3:32 remaining and held on for the win.

The Hawks (14-15) were led by Dennis Schroder with 21 points and Paul Millsap with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Muscala had 16 points off the bench.

The Timberwolves (9-19) had all five starters score in double figures led by Andrew Wiggins with 19 points and Karl-Anthony Towns with 17 points and 18 rebounds.

Without Howard, the Hawks opened with a small lineup with Millsap at center. The Timberwolves jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the opening minutes. Muscala entered the game at a timeout and the Hawks responded with a 14-3 run, including 12 straight points to take an 18-15 lead.

The teams would go back-and-forth the remainder of the first half and the Timberwolves took a 49-44 advantage into intermission. Millsap had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Hawks and Towns had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Timberwolves.

Muscala started the second half and scored the Hawks’ first eight points and 11 of their first 13 points. The Hawks took a 69-67 lead into the fourth quarter.
