Braves veteran Chase d’Arnaud is back in camp after staying away for two weeks because of bronchitis.
D’Arnaud was scheduled to face minor-league pitchers on Monday before joining the Braves for their Grapefruit League game at the Phillies on Tuesday.
“I’m ready to get back out there,” d’Arnaud said. “I’m so happy to be outside.”
D’Arnaud was diagnosed with flu-like symptoms early in spring training. He returned for two days but was sent away again when his symptoms didn’t subside.
D’Arnaud and Jace Peterson are the top candidates to be the primary bench player for the Braves this season. In 2016 d’Arnaud played in 84 games and started at every outfield position, third base, shortstop and second base. D’Arnaud was getting work at first base before his illness.
Last season d’Arnaud hit .245 with .317 on-base percentage.
