There were times it appeared that Jace Peterson might become a lineup regular for the Braves. After a decline in production last season, and then a stint in the minors, Peterson worked his way back to the big-league club and entered this season looking to be a super utility player.

But Peterson hasn’t produced at the plate or in the field this season while getting plenty of playing time because of injuries. The Braves sent Peterson back to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.

“I’m just hoping he gets his game back,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “That’s what I talked to him about. It’s an opportunity go play and get yourself going again.”

Peterson is hitting .194 with a .293 on-base percentage in 42 games (29 starts). He’s committed two errors in 58 chances at second base, one in 13 chances in the outfield and one in 11 chances at shortstop. Peterson also started four games at first base in place of Freddie Freeman, before the Braves acquired Matt Adams.

In three seasons (309 games) since joining the Braves from the Padres via trade, Peterson has hit .239 with a .324 OBP.
