Braves veteran utility man Danny Santana returned from the disabled list on Monday after a successful rehabilitation stint with Triple-A Gwinnett.
Santana had been out since July 7 because of a bacterial infection. Entering Monday he was hitting .230 with a .231 on-base percentage in 43 games, including 5-for-20 with four extra-base hits and eight RBIs as a pinch hitter.
Santana had made 12 starts in the outfield, two at third base and one at second.
“He has been a really good find for us, a good acquisition, just because of his versatility, his skill set,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “He went down (to Gwinnett) and played and did do well. He was really good. He’s a good little player.”
The Braves plan to continue using an eight-man bullpen once Arodys Vizcaino returns from the disabled list as soon as Wednesday. Manager Brian Snitker said Santana, who has played every position except for first base over four big-league seasons, is key to those plans.
“We need guys that are versatile,” Snitker said. “Switch-hitters are a plus. He kind of checks all of the boxes.”
