Atlanta United should know by Tuesday the extent of the injury sustained by Josef Martinez while playing for the Venezuelan national team last week.

Martinez started and was subbed out in the 59th minute after sustaining an injury to his right leg.

Rather than stay with the team for the second of its back-to-back World Cup qualifying games, Martinez flew to Atlanta, where an MRI was performed on Saturday.

Martinez leads MLS with five goals.

Atlanta United will play at Seattle, the reigning MLS Cup champions, on Friday.

Martinez was acquired by Atlanta United on loan from Torino. The MLS expansion club purchased him early last week.
