The salaries of Atlanta United player Kenwyne Jones and Hector Villalba were revealed by the MLS Players Union .
Jones, a former striker for several clubs in the Premier League, has guaranteed compensation in 2016 of $85,841.33. He is on loan with Central FC in Trinidad and Tobago. His signing was announced July 15.
Villalba, who starred at San Lorenzo in Argentina before signing a Designated Player contract with Atlanta United, has guaranteed compensation in 2016 of $170,258. Villalba is on loan with Tijuana in Mexico’s LIGA MX. His signing was announced July 22.
Midfielder Chris McCann, who is on loan at Coventry City in England’s League One, has a guaranteed compensation in 2016 of $90,508.
Andrew Carleton’s salary isn’t included in the list.
The salaries reflect what the Atlanta United players took home from the date they signed through Dec. 31, 2016.
The salaries of the team’s remaining players are included in the list. Note the caveat on the website: “These figures include compensation from each player’s contract with MLS. They do not include any compensation from any contracts with individual teams or their affiliates.”
According to the website , the annual average guaranteed compensation number in the salaries chart includes a player's base salary and all signing and guaranteed bonuses annualized over the term of the player's contract, including option years. The guaranteed salary doesn't include any bonuses negotiatied into the player's contract.
Atlanta United, which recently named Gerardo Martino as its first manager , will begin play in MLS in 2017.
The total in salary of the seven players Atlanta United signed is $523,619.33, but it doesn’t reflect a year’s worth of salaries. The 2016 salary cap in MLS is $3.66 million for as many as 20 players that count as the senior roster. Next year’s salary cap is $3.845 million. Teams must carry at least 18 players on the senior roster.
