Why? He scored two goals, increasing his preseason total to 4. His first came in the first minute when he intercepted a poor pass in the penalty box and had only the goalkeeper to beat. He said the team has been working on using the press high up the field.
His second came on a chip in the 47th minute. Asked if he saw Radamel Falcao’s chip in Champions League play earlier this week, he said yes, but that it didn’t influence his chip. He said he’s just grateful it worked because it doesn’t always.
“I’m happy for the team, that we played better tonight than we did in the first game (against Columbus),” Martinez said. “I’m grateful for the work I put in tonight.”
