Atlanta United will unveil jersey numbers for its players beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The numbers for each player will be announced through stories on the team’s Instagram account @atlutd.

The numbers and names will be shown on the team’s primary jersey, which will also be the kit the team will wear in its opening preseason game against Chattanooga on Saturday at Finley Stadium.

One number, 17, won’t be assigned to any player. The team announced on Friday that it is being reserved for it supporters.

It will be interesting to see if the team goes with traditional numbers, assigned by position, or if the players will get to select numbers. In the traditional soccery style, the goalkeeper would wear 1, the right fullback 2, the left fullback 3, a defensive midfielder 4, the centerbacks 5 and 6, right winger 7, central midfielder 8, the striker 9, the attacking midfielder 10 and the left winger 11. That is just one example. Sometimes the numbers change.
