Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and the Saints are close to an agreement that would pay Peterson upward to $3 million in 2017, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

If the Saints and Peterson reach an agreement, Peterson would add significant power to the Saints' backfield along with running back Mark Ingram. Last season against the Falcons, the Saints rushed for 115 yards on Sept. 26 and 142 yards on Jan. 1.

Peterson suffered a season-ending knee injury in September while with the Vikings.

The Falcons are expected to face the Saints on Dec. 7 and Dec. 24 this season.

In Peterson’s 10-year career, he rushed 11,747 yards and scored 97 rushing touchdowns. Peterson also received for 1,945 yards and caught five touchdowns.
