Valuable and rare emeralds hitting auction block next month

Some of the most valuable emeralds in the world are for sale, starting next month at Guernsey’s, a New York City auction house. The collection belongs to emerald expert and jewelry designer Marcial de Gomar.

The La Gloria emerald is an 887-carat stone billed as 'one of the largest museum-quality emeralds in the world,' according to Guernsey's. The value is estimated between $4 million and $5 million.

The teardrop-shaped Tears of Fura emeralds weigh almost 100 carats are are extremely rare as a matched set, according to Guernsey's.

The Corona de Muzo features a more than 24-carat Muzo emerald that was recovered from the famed Nuestra Señora de Atocha ship wreck. The necklace is valued as high as $6 million.

The loose stones pictured here are part of the Marcial de Gomar emerald collection, which will be auctioned off in April. These stones include the Nine Pillars of Andes, a group of nine rough stones weighing over 91 carats and valued as high as $3.5 million;

This necklace is known as the Epiphany. It features more than 5 carats of fancy kite-cut Colombian emeralds.

The Marcial de Gomar Star Emerald is the largest star emerald ever found with an estimated value between $2 million and 3 million.

These emerald and diamond earrings are named the Mariposas de Muzo. The quality of the emeralds is hard to find in a matching pair, according to Guernsey's

This stone is known as the Muzo Mariano and weighs almost 3 carats.

This ring is called the Cat's Eye Dream. Marcial de Gomar created this ring from a single cat's eye emerald from Muzo, Colombia.
