A car fire stifled DeKalb County traffic just in time for Friday’s evening commute.

The incident happened about 4 p.m. on I-85 South near I-285, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported. At times, all lanes were blocked for firefighters and first responders.

About an hour later, the burning wreckage had been extinguished and most lanes had reopened, according to the Traffic Center. However, traffic was still backed up to Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Gwinnett County.

Drivers were advised to take Buford Highway as an alternate, the Traffic Center reported.

DeKalb fire Capt. Dion Bentley told AJC.com that he was not aware of any injuries related to this incident. It’s unclear what started the car fire.
