With temperatures below freezing, the Georgia Department of Transportation urges motorists to proceed with caution if they have to drive today.

The department worked overnight to apply brine to keep roads from refreezing. But icy patches are expected until the sun rises and temperatures rise above freezing later this morning.

With most schools out again Friday, traffic is light on metro Atlanta highways. An earlier accident on northbound I-85 at Druid Hills Road has been cleared.

MARTA is operating on a modified schedule Friday. The state's Xpress bus service, CobbLinc and Gwinnett County Transit will resume normal operations.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031.
