A teen driver blew through a stop sign just moments before a crash in Bartow County killed one of her passengers and sent multiple people to hospitals, the Georgia State Patrol said.
Five people, including the teen driver, were injured in the deadly crash, which occurred about 9:23 p.m. Sunday on Old Gilliam Springs Road and Ga. 20, officials said.
According to the GSP, William Michael Murphy, 57, of Cartersville, was approaching Old Gilliam Springs from eastbound Ga. 20 in a Toyota 4Runner. Amber Diana Coker, 17, of Cartersville, was driving north on Old Gilliam Springs Road in a 2006 Nissan Altima.
Coker, the GSP said, “failed to stop for a stop sign and entered the roadway in the path of” the 4Runner.
Titus Williams, 20, of Cartersville, died on the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries, Bartow coroner Joel Guyton said. Williams was a passenger in the backseat of the Altima.
Two other passengers, both 20 and also from Cartersville, were taken to hospitals.
Brice Henderson was flown to Atlanta Medical Center and Dustin Antwain Johnson was taken to Floyd Medical Center. Coker was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Murphy and his passenger, 60-year-old Valdilene Murphy of Cartersville, were taken to Cartersville Medical Center.
The GSP did not release the conditions of those injured or the name of the victim.
The crash remains under investigation.
