DeKalb County police Tuesday afternoon identified the woman killed in an overnight wreck on I-285 as Patricia Hay, 29, of Conyers.

The crash happened about 12:30 a.m. on I-285 northbound before Memorial Drive.

DeKalb police Major S.R. Fore said a GMC Sierra hit the back of a flatbed tow truck that had stopped on the right shoulder of the interstate, killing on impact and ejecting Hay, who was a passenger in the truck.

“The Sierra then continued left across all lanes of traffic, coming to rest across the far left lane,” Fore said in an email. “A 2012 Honda Civic was unable to stop and struck the passenger side front of the Sierra and came to rest.”

Fore said the driver of a fourth vehicle, a 2006 BMW 325i, saw the two vehicles collide and stopped before striking anything.

He said the driver of the Sierra and the driver and passenger in the Civic were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Fore said alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.

The northbound lanes of I-285 were shut down for several hours, but had reopened by the start of the morning commute.
