A mechanical issue with a tire may have caused a Henry County wreck that killed one person and seriously injured another, police said Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on I-75 southbound just south of Jodeco Road and blocked two lanes for several hours, according to Henry County police Sgt. Joey Smith. About 3:30 p.m., all lanes of I-75 were reopened, Smith said.

Investigators believe a problem with a tire may have caused the white F-150 to overturn, ejecting both the driver and a passenger, Smith said. The single-vehicle crash remains under investigation.

The truck’s passenger died at the scene of the wreck, according to police. The driver was flown to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries.

The names of those involved in the wreck were not released, pending notification of family members, Smith said. Police believe the person killed was from south Georgia.
