Forty-two people, 25 of them children, were displaced following an apartment fire in College Park.

Fire ripped through the Harrington Park Apartments, destroying four homes and leading to a power outage in six units, according to local Red Cross officials.

It happened Wednesday afternoon in the 2800 block of Camp Creek Parkway, Red Cross spokeswoman Sherry Nicholson said.

Firefighters from three different counties responded to the blaze, which started in the kitchen of a first-floor unit and quickly spread, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“It was huge and stuff started exploding,” witness Rockquez Bandy told the television station.

The sounds were probably exploding aerosol cans, fire officials told Channel 2.

No one was injured in the blaze. The people displaced are staying at a nearby hotel, Channel 2 reported.

“Most residents will be able to return to their homes when the power is restored,” Nicholson said.

Firefighters plan to return to the scene Thursday to figure out how the fire started, according to Channel 2.
