Gwinnett sheriff deputies have arrested a nurse on the jail staff for having regular trysts with an inmate.

Whether it is true love or not, Cheryl Lynn Bates committed a sexual assault when she had had sex with a person in custody, according to the Thursday arrest warrant.

Bates, 44, scheduled “multiple medical procedures” to engage in sex with the inmate between Sept. 1 and Oct. 7, the warrant said.

The Stone Mountain woman is not in custody, said Deputy Shannon Volkodav. She is an employee with Corizon Correctional Healthcare, which has the contract to provide medical services for the jail.

State records show she is a licensed practical nurse in Georgia. Attempts to reach her for comment were unsuccessful.

The investigation is ongoing, Volkodav said.
