A Maryland woman was killed in Virginia on Saturday when a 12-year-old boy landed on her SUV while she was driving on Interstate 66 in Fairfax County, according to local news reports.

Marisa Harris, a 22-year-old graduate student at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia,  was driving with her boyfriend in the passenger seat, when the boy jumped off an overpass and landed on her SUV just before 4:30, Virginia State Police officials said.

Harris was pronounced dead at the scene, according to NBC 4, but her boyfriend survived, managing to steer the vehicle off to the side of the road.

The boy was taken with life-threatening injuries to a local hospital, police said.

Harris' mother said her daughter was studying clinical counseling and had recently taken a trip to Budapest as part of the class work, NBC 4 reported.
