The Medina Independent School District in Texas has a warning sign for anyone who may intrude upon the premises.

"Attention: Please be aware that the staff at Medina ISD may be armed and will use whatever force is necessary to protect our students," the sign says.

The goal of the sign, in part, is to deter those who may have bad intentions.

"I think that anybody who might have a thought about harming someone in mind might think twice about it," Superintendent Penny White told KSAT.

White said the board trustees decided to add the sign, which will also be installed at the other entrances of the school, after discussing it for a year.

Although White told KENS5 she's seen no negative comments, some parents had mixed feelings on the sign.

Jillian Sides, who has two sons at the school, said she takes no issue with it.

"Schools have been a target for, for lack of a better word, crazy people, and I'm perfectly fine with it," she told KSAT.

Alisha Reagan felt differently. "I don't know if that's asking for trouble or not. I mean, you post a sign like that, it may bring trouble, unfortunately," said the mother of a third-grade girl.

White said part of the reasoning for the sign was the remote location of the school in a rural area. She would not say which teachers, if any, are carrying guns.
