Severe turbulence on flight injures passengers and crew

Problems on an American Airlines flight left six people injured Friday.

Flight 1410 was flying from LaGuardia Airport in New York to Miami when it encountered heavy turbulence.

"It was rough," passenger Chris Germain told WSVN. "It was bouncing up and down, and it felt like we took a little dive."

The turbulence was likely due to bad weather. It was so hard for the pilot to see, he had to circle the airport twice.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said five passengers were injured and a flight attendant seemed to have a broken nose.

The flight attendant was placed on a stretcher, examined by paramedics and taken to a nearby hospital.

"American Airlines Flight 1410 from New York's LaGuardia Airport to Miami briefly encountered severe turbulence approximately 40 minutes prior to landing," American Airlines said in a statement. "The seatbelt sign was on at the time. The flight landed without incident and safely taxied to the gate. Five passengers were evaluated by paramedics on arrival and were released. One flight attendant was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation."

"The pilot did a great job, he did a great job and made sure we felt safe," Germain said.
