Newlyweds share first dance while stuck on shut down highway

A just-married couple on the way to their reception became trapped in traffic Saturday evening after a multiple-vehicle accident shut down the highway for nearly two hours.

Jeff and Rebecca Payne, of Centerville, Ohio, celebrated their nuptials in Beavercreek and were on the way to their reception at Top of the Market in downtown Dayton.

They used the time to share their first dance as a married couple. Strangers took photos of the newlyweds and posted them on social media with the hashtag #rescuethepaynes.

Videographer Levi Curby filmed a video of the couple’s special moment.

The westbound lanes of U.S. Route 35 were closed beginning shortly before 6 p.m. after as many as five vehicles were involved in an accident.

At least one person was taken to Miami Valley Hospital after the crash, which happened near the Steve Whalen Boulevard exit.

No serious injuries were reported and there were no fatalities, according to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center.
