Missing girl told to stand by tree 100 feet from home, punished for not drinking her milk, police say

A 3-year-old girl is missing and her father is behind bars after police said that he told her to stand by a tree because she didn’t drink her milk.

An Amber Alert has been issued for Sherin Mathews. Police said she was reported missing after her father Wesley Mathews told her to stand by a tree outside her home at 3 a.m. Saturday, KXAS reported.

He said he went outside to check on her about 15 minutes later and she was gone. The family reported her missing nearly five hours later, at 8 a.m. Saturday, KXAS reported.

According to police, Wesley Mathews told them that, "He knew coyotes had been seen in the alley where he left his daughter," KTRK reported.

An Amber Alert has been issued for the girl who was described as having "developmental issues and has a limited verbal communication skills," KXAS reported
Wesley Mathews was arrested Saturday evening, charged with abandoning or endangering a child. His bond was set at $250,000, KXAS reported.
