Sen. Jon Tester's tweet about the passage of the Tax Reconciliation Act has gone viral, with more than 42,000 retweets, The Great Falls Tribune reported Saturday.
The video that accompanied the tweet showed the Montana Democrat's displeasure with the bill, which passed the Senate by a 51-49 margin in a major legislative victory for President Donald Trump.
“I was just handed a 479-page tax bill a few hours before the vote,” Tester said in the video. “One page literally has hand-scribbled policy changes on it that can’t be read.”
“I want you to take a look at this, folks. This is your government at work,” Tester said as he brought the page with the side notations closer to the camera. “Here’s the bill as it’s written. Here’s the modifications that are in it. I can read one word; it’s called ‘add this language.’”
Tester called the release of the final bill language and the short time frame “unbelievable.”
“We’re doing massive tax reform on an absolute incredible timeline,” he said.
