A 7-year-old Atlanta Public Schools student was hit by a school bus Friday afternoon and taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, police said.

The Slater Elementary School student was struck as the bus was pulling away from a stop at Adair and Hopkins streets in southeast Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News. The child’s condition was not immediately available, but he was reported to be breathing and alert at the time of the incident.

The driver immediately secured the bus and attended to the child, police said.

The child’s father told Channel 2 that by the time he arrived at the bus stop the child was lying on the ground with visible tire marks.

The child was transported by ambulance to the hospital with a parent, police said.
