Crews worked into the night to contain an ammonia leak at the Talenti Gelato plant in Marietta that caused workers there to be evacuated. The work initially had been expected to be finished by dusk.

Firefighters were concerned that the leak went outside a containment area into some insulation, Channel 2 Action News reported.

No one was hurt in the incident at the plant which is located on King Industrial Drive, south of Canton Road between I-75 and Cobb Parkway.

Firefighters initially said that about 20 gallons out of a 50-gallon container of ammonia was on the ground, but that the leak had stopped. It was not considered a major spill. They had been “encouraging” the remaining ammonia to evaporate.

Two neighboring facilities in the industrial area around the plant were also evacuated.
