Citizens view a fire rescue demonstration as part of the Woodstock Citizens’ Public Safety Academy. Applications are being taken from residents for the spring session to start March 1. CITY OF WOODSTOCK

Woodstock residents can learn about the responsibilities of public safety personnel and the risks associated with the professions by enrolling in the spring 2018 session of the Citizens’ Public Safety Academy of the Woodstock Fire and Police departments

Classes will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, March 1 through May 10, at Chattahoochee Technical College, 8371 Main St., Woodstock. The program is open to anyone who is at least 19 years old, passes a criminal background check, and lives, works or has an interest in the city. Applications are due by Feb. 26 and available at the police department, 12453 Highway 92, or by visiting www.woodstockga.gov/police/cpsa.

Topics will include Civilian Response to Active Shooter (CRASE), criminal investigations, crime prevention, extrications, thermal imagining cameras, fire safety and fire prevention. Students also will tour the Woodstock Fire Department, Cherokee County Fire Training Center and Georgia Public Safety Training Center at the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office.
