For the 17th year, the Arbor Day Foundation has named Woodstock a 2016 Tree City USA for its commitment to effective urban forest management, city officials said.

Woodstock achieved the recognition by meeting four Tree City requirements: Having a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

In celebration of Arbor Day, Feb. 17, Woodstock will give away 876 crepe myrtle and dogwood tree seedlings, as well as a free booklet of tree-care information.

The seedlings and tree-care guides can be picked up from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Feb. 17, at Magnolia Hall (behind the Magnolia Thomas restaurant), 108 Arnold Mill Road, Building C; City Hall Annex, 12453 Highway 92; and Dean’s Store on Main Street, 8588 Main St.
