Taking action on two downtown developments on Arnold Mill Road, the Woodstock City Council has approved rezoning and variances to allow a developer to build a 33,000-square-foot office building, and has awarded a construction contract to expand the William G. Long Senior Center.

Oak Hall Companies LLC plans to redevelop a 2.5-acre site at 108 Arnold Mill. It will acquire the Magnolia Hall events venue from the city, raze it and replace it with a two-story, 33,000-square-foot office building. The existing Magnolia Thomas Restaurant next door would not be affected and would continue in operation.

The Council approved Oak Hall’s requests with the proviso that staff work with the developer on restricting a rear entrance to the property to emergency vehicles only, in response to neighbors’ concerns about traffic and security.

Separately, the Council awarded a $371,983 contract to Astra Construction Services LLC, Woodstock, to build a 2,400-square-foot addition to the senior center at 223 Arnold Mill. Operated by the Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department, the center reportedly needs more space to meet the needs of a growing senior population.
