A 44-year-old woman was killed in a North Georgia house fire Sunday.

Crews responded to the fire on the 600 block of Hill Road in Dalton about 5:40 p.m., Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner spokesman Glenn Allen said. The home was completely destroyed.

When they arrived, the fire was fully active with flames coming from the front door, windows and the back of the house, the Dalton Daily Citizen reported.

“The victim was rescued from the blaze by firefighters, CPR was performed, and she was transported to (Hamilton Medical Center) in Dalton,” Allen said.

The victim, Tonya Ovbey, later died.

Officials said the fire originated in the attic. Allen said the cause "appears to be electrical in nature.” There was no evidence of a working smoke alarm.
