A possible educational farm on Old Rucker Road – actually, the present Whole Kids Foundation Educational Farm that may be relocated from Upper Hembree Road – is the topic of two upcoming “Community Conversations” in Alpharetta.

The meetings start at 7 p.m., Nov. 28 and Dec. 5, at Alpharetta City Hall. The educational farm may take up an estimated two acres of a 10-acre site recently acquired by the city on Old Rucker east of Broadwell Road, according to Assistant City Administrator James T. Drinkard.

Harry’s Markets had established the farm before its acquisition by Whole Foods and Whole Foods continued to operate it. However, Whole Foods plans to vacate and sell its land by year’s end, and it has offered to donate the farm to the city.

The City Council has yet to decide whether to accept the donation, Drinkard said. A decision must be made in December. The farm includes vegetable gardens, a greenhouse, compost center, apiary, a small number of chickens and goats, and an indoor and an outdoor classroom.
