Davis was convicted for the 1989 murder of off-duty Savannah Police Officer Mark Allen MacPhail, a 27-year-old former Army Ranger and father of two.

Protest rallies and vigils are planned today outside the prison -- and across the world -- calling for a halt to Davis' execution.
