Tree trimmer killed while directing traffic

A man working a part of a tree trimming crew was killed on Powers Road in Marietta, Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said.

Spencer Young, 60, of Lawrenceville was directing traffic when he was killed.

Police said Young held his hands up for driver Allen Martin, 82, of Marietta to stop, but for reasons unknown Martin kept going and struck Young with the left front side of his car.

Young was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he later died of his injuries.
