Portions of two roads in Alpharetta will close for a night in August due to a road race that will include nearly 2,000 runners.

The city says it will close parts of Academy Street and Haynes Bridge Road from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24.

Haynes Bridge Road between Old Milton Parkway and Academy Street will be closed to all traffic during that time. Academy Street will be closed to all traffic between Westside Parkway and Main Street. One southbound lane of Westside Parkway and one westbound lane of Old Milton Parkway will also be closed to traffic.

The city advises drivers to plan for alternate routes that night as “extremely heavy” traffic delays are expected. Digital signs will be placed on the three impacted roadways to notify commuters.

The race causing the traffic delays is the 21st annual running of The Mayor's Corporate Challenge. It's a 5K that also features food, entertainment and sponsor booths. More information on the race and how to register can be found on Alpharetta's website.
