Calling her opponent an "Uncle Tom" will not do for DeKalb Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton, an increasingly desperate politician who sees her government gig sliding away on a tide of voter disgust.

No, the Commissioner is evoking the movie “Django Unchained,” comparing her opponent, Steve Bradshaw, to the odious house slave played by Samuel L. Jackson.

Jackson has called his character “the most hated Negro in cinematic history,” and that seemed to be good enough for Sutton. Her flier says, DeKalb District 4 is not Candyland, the fictional plantation in the movie, "Django Unchained." However, there are curious parallels between STEPHEN in "Django Unchained" and STEPHEN Bradshaw...."

Sutton has been dogged by ethical allegations for years and came in second to Bradshaw in the Democratic primary. That the district's commissioner will be a swing vote on a racially divided board ratchets up the animus and import of the runoff election, which occurs Tuesday.
