Five things you should know on Thursday, Jan. 7:

1. No one matched all numbers in Wednesday's Powerball lottery drawing, which means the jackpot jumps to $675 million (but will probably grow). [Russell Grantham has Wednesday's numbers and more]

2. The DeKalb district attorney will hold a news conference this morning to talk about charges against a police officer accused of shooting a naked, unarmed Afghanistan War veteran. [Christian Boone has the story so far]

3. For 19 hours, officers from two counties tried to persuade a man to release his 2-year-old son from the master bedroom of a Gwinnett County home. Only when shots were fired did the standoff end Wednesday afternoon, and it was not the ending officers had wanted. [Russell Grantham and Alexis Stevens have the details]

4. Vin Diesel paid an emotional tribute to his late, longtime friend Paul Walker on Wednesday night while accepting a pair of People’s Choice Awards for “Furious 7.” [see the video here | photos from the awards show]

5. Yes, it feels like 34 outside, but it will warm up nicely today. [Get your full Atlanta-area weather forecast here]
