A Subway location in Cobb County failed its recent health inspection.

The Sandy Plains Road outpost of the national sandwich shop chain scored a 66/U on its Sept. 20 health check. Any score below a 70 is considered failing.

The inspector reported seeing an employee use a cellphone and then not wash their hands before making a sandwich.

Sohag Jaman, a shift manager at the store, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday that he has been reminding employees to wash their hands.

“Whenever I’m here, most of them are doing it,” he said.

Another problem the inspector noted was food being held at too warm a temperature; lettuce was at 56 degrees instead of the mandated 41 degrees.

A cooler on the sandwich line is broken and food is being cooled using freezer packs below the line.

“That one is expensive, but we’re trying to fix it,” Jaman said before assuring food is at safe temperatures.

There was also no soap in the women’s bathroom and a build-up of debris around the soda nozzles, according to the report.

The store earned scores of 99/A in September 2016 and 100/A in June 2015.

Follow-up inspections are usually done within 10 days of the original evaluation.
