Chalk dust and smelly markers are no more for
Marietta City Schools. The school system has been rewarded for its tablets and clacking keyboards.
The district was ranked as one of the nation's best when it came to how it used technology for a school system its size, according to results of the Digital School Districts Survey, released Tuesday.
Marietta tied for 10th place with Georgia’s Rome City Schools in the category of national districts between 3,000 and 12,000 students.
The study looked at how a school board used technology to be more transparent, how it used tech to govern, how many social media platforms it used to promote the district and how it kept mobile devices in mind when releasing information.
With all that information, the survey ranked the top 10 districts in each category by size of student population.
"It is rewarding to know that Marietta City School's innovative practices are exemplars nationwide," said superintendent Grant Rivera, who is in his first year.

This is the 13th year the Center for Digital Education and the National School Boards Association have conducted the survey. Marietta said this is the ninth time it has been listed.
Including Marietta and Rome, nine other Georgia school district were also listed. See those below.
Large student population district category (12,000 students or more):
- 1st, Houston County School System
- 4th, Richmond County Schools (tie)
- 8th, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (tie)
- 9th, Fayette County Public Schools (tie)
- 10th, Cherokee County School District (tie)
Mid-sized student population districts category (3,000 to 12,000 students):
- 2nd, Jefferson City Schools
- 7th, Monroe County Schools (tie)
Small student population districts category (3,000 students or fewer):
- 7th, Chickamauga City School District (tie)
- 9th, Jasper County Charter System (tie)
