Snellville’s Mayor and City Council unanimously approved measures Monday that will allow the construction of a 123,000-square-foot Kroger super store at the corner of Highway 78 and Rosebud Road.

The new Kroger will be equipped with more amenities than a traditional food store including a drive-thru pharmacy, a grocery pick-up station and expanded clothing, toy and book sections.

The project will sit on five parcels of land totaling 22.84 acres, some of which had to be annexed into city limits. The property will also feature 8,920 square feet of additional retail space and two outparcels. There will be a nine-pump gas station, 581 parking spaces and two access drives on Highway 78 and two on Rosebud Road.

The current Kroger located in Midway Plaza across Rosebud Road is leased and not owned by the grocery store chain. In recent years, Kroger officials said the company is interested in owning its stores to streamline operations.
