The Snellville City Council approved a resolution Monday authorizing Councilmember Bobby Howard to operate and maintain the city’s Cop Cab.

In 2014, Howard secured the help of the Snellville Police Department to transfer an out-of-service police unit to the city and created the Cop Cab. The police unit, painted on the front end as a police cruiser, and the back as a taxi, is designed to increase awareness of the consequences of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

The resolution specifically provides Councilmember Howard the authority to operate the Cop Cab, maintain its appearance and transport it to public events where it is being used to publicize the consequences of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The resolution also authorizes Howard to park the vehicle at his personal residence for the purpose of performing regular maintenance and cleaning. Howard may also authorize other members of the Snellville City Council or employees of the city to operate the Cop Cab for the same purposes.
