Sewell Park will receive improvements due to a recent vote of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, approving two contracts.

A $25,200 contract was awarded to low bidder Vintage Roofing for the park at 2055 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta.

The existing two-story concession, restroom and storage building, serving the main tournament field, is in need of repairs and upgrades to avoid structural deterioration, according to Cobb PARKS Director Jimmy Gisi.

Work will include replacing fascia, soffit, gutters, downspouts, all fixed glass windows and louver vents on gable ends.

Also, the project will include painting the building exterior, including metal stairs, handrails and doors.

The second contract for $19,971 is with Top’s Services, Inc. to install permanent dugout roofs on two baseball fields, requiring less maintenance and future expenses.

Since their construction several years ago, Little League baseball fields 5A and 5B have relied on fabric tarp roof material to provide shade and shelter in the dugouts.

Yet the fabric requires frequent maintenance and occasional replacement.

No new maintenance or operational costs are associated with these projects.
