“Aspiration,” a 12-foot tall stainless steel sculpture by Atlanta architect and developer John Portman, was recently unveiled at Charlie Loudermilk Park, located at the intersection of Peachtree, Roswell and Paces Ferry roads in Buckhead. Portman is renowned for a number of projects, including the iconic Westin Peachtree Plaza in downtown Atlanta.
The Buckhead Community Improvement District said Portman’s sculpture “symbolizes Buckhead’s past and future success.”
Portman and Loudermilk, founder of rent-to-own business Aaron’s, both attended the event with family and friends as well as the BCID and Alvin Dodson, deputy commissioner of the Atlanta department of parks and recreation, according to its Facebook page. The BCID said additional projects are coming up this year, such as a Wieuca Road and Phipps Boulevard roundabout, in an effort “to make Buckhead more attractive, livable and walkable.”
