The Sandy Springs City Council has approved an agreement with the state in which the city will foot the $290,551 estimated bill for proprietary and decorative items in the realignment of Glenridge Drive at Roswell Road.

The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to reconstruct the intersection so Glenridge and Roswell meet at a more suitable angle, and also provide adequate left turns for northbound and southbound traffic, according to a staff report to the council. Streetscape improvements and a revised traffic signal also are planned.

The project is in the final design phase and is scheduled to be let for construction in January, staff said.

GDOT safety program funds cannot go toward the decorative items required by Sandy Springs streetscape standards, such as brick pavers, granite wall facing and pedestrian lighting. So, the city has agreed to pay for them.

After GDOT receives Sandy Springs’ payment, it will include the proprietary/decorative items in the construction contract for the project, according to its agreement with the city.

If the final cost of the items exceeds $290,551, Sandy Springs will be responsible for the difference. If less, GDOT will refund the difference.
